Wilma M. Monken of rural Hoffman died Wednesday July 1, 2009 at her home at the age of 91. She was born on April 20, 1918 in Clinton County the daughter of Walter and Sophia (Hansen) Nettles. She married Walter Monken on June 11, 1938 in Centralia and he preceded her in death on February 26, 1998.Wilma is survived by a daughter: Carolyn Crocker and husband Richard of Carlyle; daughters-in-law: Jan Monken of Centralia and Bonnie Monken of rural Hoffman; sisters: Bernice Schnitzmeyer of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Marcella Dodillet of Mt. Vernon; six grandsons: Tony Monken, Craig Monken, Guy Monken, Wes Monken, Todd Crocker and Travis Crocker; six granddaughters: Kim McMillan, Shawn Hartmann, Robin Smith, Lisa Erlinger, Amy Brandt and Brandy Donnewald; twenty-one great grandchildren: Megan Marcum, Andrea McMillan, Bredesen Hartmann, Katie Hartmann, Jalyn Monken, Addison Monken, Tyler Smith, Amanda Monken, Eric Monken, Cody Yates, Colt Yates, Wyatt Erlinger, Sadie Monken, Miranda Monken, Abby Brandt, Cole Crocker, Logan Crocker, Cortney Crocker, Chelsea Crocker, Rylee Crocker and Alexa Crocker; and one great great granddaughter: Hadley Marcum.Mrs. Monken was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons: W. Harold Monken and Wayne Monken; brothers: Orville Nettles and Walter Nettles; and grandson: Troy Crocker.Wilma was a farm wife and a homemaker, a lifelong resident of Clinton County and a member of St. Mary Church in Carlyle. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends. Wilma was full of love, joy and laughter with her children and grandchildren the center of her life.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary Church in Carlyle on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. Fr. George Mauck officiating. The interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. or on Monday at from 8 to 9:30 A.M.For those that wish to remember Wilma with a memorial in her honor the family suggests memorials to Shriners Hospital For Crippled Children or to the charity of the donors choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
