Thelma M. Altadonna, formerly of Carlyle died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at The Arbors at Parkway Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois at the age of 95 years. Thelma was born in Flora, Illinois on March 16, 1915 the daughter of Robert and Mabel (Passmore) Bowen. She married John J. Altadonna on November 24, 1938 in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on July 6, 1986.Thelma is survived by a daughter: Lynn Gebhardt of Trenton; two grandchildren: Jennifer Gebhardt of St. Louis and Christopher Gebhardt of Freeburg; three sisters: Mildred Yanaka of Houston, Texas, Gladys Hamilton of Flora and Marjorie Haeber of Austwell, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Thelma was preceded in death by three sisters: Gennevieve Lewis, Helen Gibson and Audrey Blackshere; and two brothers: Ralph Bowen and Carl Bowen.Thelma and her husband formerly owned and operated Altadonna’s I.G.A. Foodliner in Carlyle. Thelma was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Sodality, formerly served as co-director of the Clinton County Fair Pageant, enjoyed working in her garden and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary Church, Carlyle on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. George Mauck and Fr. Bill Hitpas presiding. The interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8:00 P.M. or on Saturday from 8 to 9:30 A.M.Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the St. Mary Church, Clinton County Humane Society, Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the charity of the donor’s choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle which is serving the family.
