Joseph W. Mioux of Carlyle died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese, IL at the age of 91 years. He was born in Carlyle the son of Elie and Antonia (Demming) Mioux. On April 11, 1959 in Breese, IL he married Mary Timmermann and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2008.Mr. Mioux is survived by a son: Joseph G. Mioux and wife Anna of Carlyle; two daughters: Dr. Mary Mioux Berry, D.O. and husband Richard of Edwardsville, IL and Altadena, CA and Martha Mioux of Effingham, IL; six grandchildren: Michael, Nicholas, Jennifer and Christina Mioux and Katherine and Richard Berry.Mr. Mioux was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister: Mary Davis; and brothers-in-law: August Timmermann and Joseph B. Timmermann.Mr. Mioux was the former owner of Mioux Florist in Carlyle and Breese. He served in the US Army during World War II. During and after the World War II, Mr. Mioux held the following positions: Command, 285thBattalion, Company B Combat Engineers, an Honor Company Command at General Georges S. Patton’s funeral and Command, 24thArmored Engineers Battalion, 4thArmored Division after the war.He was a member of St. Mary Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 1382, the Battle of the Bulge, the Ruf-Marcham American Legion Post 404, the Goldsmith-Terry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3523, and the Catholic War Veterans Marian Post 1780.A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 19, 2011 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Church in Carlyle with Fr. Pat Peter officiating. The interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Friday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. or on Saturday from 8 to 9:30 A.M. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7:00 P.M. Friday at St. Mary Church.The family suggests floral tributes to honor his life as a florist or memorials to Mater Dei High School or All Saints Academy Grade School and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
