John VanDorn

John VanDorn of rural Beckemeyer, Illinois died Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Caring First Nursing Home in Breese, Illinois at the age of 91 years. He was born in Beckemeyer on July 10, 1917 the son of John and Johanna (Tenneholder) VanDorn.John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Agnes Taul and Clara Beckemeyer; and brothers: Herman, Francis, Edward, William and Emil VanDorn.Mr. VanDorn is survived by a sister: Alice Green of Chicago; a sister-in-law: Gloria VanDorn of Beckemeyer; and many nieces and nephews.John was of the Catholic faith. He was retired from the United States Air Force having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam. He was a member of the Holthaus/Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227 in Beckemeyer and the Goldsmith/Terry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3523 of Carlyle. He was an avid reader.Funeral services will be Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle with Deacon Bob Lippert officiating. The interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with full military rites accorded.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. or on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until the time of services.Expressions of sympathy may be made in John’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
