Edward H. Kleber, Sr. Of Carlyle died Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville at the age of 72 years. Ed was born in Carlyle on February 1, 1938 the son of Harry and Ruby (Boatright) Kleber. He married Dolores 'Trinket' Nowling in Carlyle in 1959 and she preceded him in death in 1968. Ed later married Jeanne Adams in Carlyle on August 24, 1970, and she survives.Ed is also survived by three daughters: Danita Bohle and husband Tony of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Melissa Vohlken and husband Kevin of Mulberry Grove, and LeAnne Albert and husband Jimmy of Lockhart, Texas; two sons: Edward 'Bug' Kleber, Jr. and wife Jean, Scott Kleber and wife Dawn of Carlyle; grandchildren: Justin and Jaron Kleber, Riley Kleber, Charity Loepker, Megan Hertz, Taylor and Kylea Vohlken, Trent and Trisha Albert; great grandchildren: Maddie Hertz and Caden Loepker; sibling: Reva Grapperhaus and husband Ralph and Anthony 'Corky' Kleber of Carlyle; and nieces and nephews.Ed retired from the City of Carlyle as the Superintendent of the Electric Department. He had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was serving the City of Carlyle as an alderman. He was a member of the Ruf-Marcham American Legion Post 404 (Carlyle) and presently is serving as the commander, Scott Masonic Lodge #79 A.F. and A.M. (Carlyle), Ainad Shriners East St. Louis Council, the Swords of Bunker Hill, Patriot Guard/American Legion Riders, and Carlyle Sportsman’s Club. Ed had served 25 years on the Carlyle Fire Department, sixteen years on the Carlyle Unit 1 School Board. He organized and promoted Bikes Around The Lake Tribute for Veteran’s Memorial. He had been a commercial fisherman and was an avid fisherman and hunter.Funeral services will be at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. George Mauck officiating. The interment will follow at Carlyle Cemetery with military honors accorded.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. or on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until the time of services. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Ainad Shrine or to Kaskaskia College Veterans Memorial and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
