Cyril “Mick” Becker of Beckemeyer died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at his home at the age of 76 years. Mr. Becker was born in Bartelso on February 19, 1932, the son of John and Mary (Wichmann) Becker. He married Leona Meyer in Bartelso on September 27, 1955.Mick is survived by his wife: Leona; two sons: Ron Becker and wife Barb of Carlyle and Dan Becker and wife Karen of Breese; a sister: Barb Krebs and husband John of Carlyle; a brother: Ed Becker and wife Olive of Frogtown; a son-in-law: Kevin Krebs of Carlyle; and seven grandchildren: Adam Becker and special friend Sarah, Paul Becker and special friend Chris, Eric Becker, Dayna Becker and special friend Adam, Cody Becker, Jessica Krebs and fiancé` Eric Kohnen and Robert Krebs.Mick was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Brenda Krebs, and sister and brother-in-law Bertha and Dick Mroczek.
Mick was a member of St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer, Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227 in Beckemeyer and Mater Dei High School Father and Friends Club, and had been a member of the Beckemeyer/Wade Township Fire Department. He has served in the Korean Conflict with the Marine Corp. He was a retired driver for Ready Mix Concrete.A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 4, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer with Fr. Henry Fischer and Deacon Bob Lippert officiating. The interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Holthaus-Kampwerth American Legion Post.Friends may visit with the family at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle on Thursday from 4 to 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 8 to 9:30 A.M.Expressions of sympathy may be made in Mick’s memory to St. Anthony Church, Mater Dei Catholic High School or Hospice of Southern Illinois, and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the family.
